According to the Environmental Working Group, many spray sunscreens contain a cancer-causing chemical known as benzene. It’s alarming because spray sunscreens can be easily inhaled and absorbed into the skin. It’s best to look for SPF products that are benzene-free, which you’ll find mostly in sunscreen lotions. The organization recommends if you do use a spray sunscreen, apply it to your hands first and then rub it into your skin to minimize inhalation risk.
