Paper recycling has become more common these days, but not all paper is the same. One problem that paper-recycling plants have been facing lately are old photographs being tossed into the mix with office paper and magazines. Unfortunately, photographs contain a thin layer of polythene, which is the coating on top that gives you a gloss or matte finish. This can clog paper-recycling machines. When in doubt, it's better to toss rather than try to recycle.

Petroleum jelly is a staple in most households. Here's an easy tip to prevent the caps of industrial glue bottles from sticking to the tube: dab some jelly around the edges before putting the cap back on. This also works for nail polish bottles, too.

When it's time to replace your dingy old towels, don't throw them in the trash. Instead, many animal shelters will accept them and use them as bedding for dogs and cats or to dry them off after a bath. Simply contact your local animal shelter to see if they are accepting used towels.
